Message from the President

July 2022
Relief!
It is amazing what just a little bit of moisture can do to the attitudes in the rural communities of this state. I hope everyone has received a little moisture, I know the slow steady rains were a Godsend to the burn scarred regions, keeping flood and watershed damages to a minimum. I am reminded of an interview I watched of Joe Leathers, General Manager of the Four Sixes Ranch in Guthrie, Texas. ‘Procrastination is on your side’. Maybe that is just a gentle reminder that we work within God’s Time and not mans.
I was very thankful for the great attendance and participation we had at the Mid-Year Meeting. We saw people we haven’t seen in several years. It was great to visit in person and, not naming any names, some people had an exceptionally good time! We all deserved it! The amount of work from staff and officers to get it pulled off shows the level of dedication and professionalism. I hope no one questions if they are getting the value of their annual dues.
Guarded optimism is how I feel about the communication between the USFS and NMCGA. We have started monthly meetings with them to discuss multiple topics. We will continue to be your voice, let us know if you have any specific concerns. Our ranching community hasn’t had a direct ear in quite some time, so I am hopeful.
NMCGA has notified producers of the schedule of Town Hall Meetings hosted by the State Land Office and Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard. Like many of you, one of my leases is up for renewal. I have some concerns with the language in the contract and questions on the proposed cultural properties rule and eleven wind farm contracts impact on the agriculture leases. We will continue to forward concerns to the Commissioner.
Summer will be over before we are ready, spend some time enjoying it!
Pray your neighbor gets rain!
Loren Patterson
